  • The cover picture shows porous gold nanotubes serving as catalysts for methanol oxidation. The nanotubes were prepared by R. Jelinek and colleagues at Ben Gurion University, Israel, via a simple process combining galvanic displacement of silver by gold thiocyanate, which in parallel underwent spontaneous crystallization and reduction. The porous Au nanotubes exhibited high electrochemically-active surface area and excellent methanol oxidation catalytic properties, including low onset potential, high oxidation current, good long-term stability, and recycling capabilities. The favorable catalytic properties are ascribed to the pronounced corrugated morphology of the porous nanotubes.
