Spinal epidural hematoma. Posttraumatic in ankylosing spondylitis Academic Article uri icon

abstract

  • Traumatic spinal epidural hematoma without fracture dislocation of the spine is a rare entity. While spontaneous spinal epidural hemorrhages are more common, traumatic spinal epidural hematomas occurred only in 12% of all published cases. We present a patient who suffered from ankylosing spondylitis and who developed a posttraumatic subacute spinal epidural hematoma. To our knowledge, this is only the second case in the literature of a patient suffering from both entities. In this paper, we make an assumption about how Bechterew's disease can contribute to the development of a hematoma.
