abstract

  • Many types of amyloids related to many amyloidogenic diseases, for example: Amyloid â (Aâ) in Alzheimer's disease, á-synuclein in Parkinson's disease, amylin in Type 2 diabetes and prions in mad-cow disease. The effect of metal ions on the progression of these diseases had been investigated by elucidating the metal binding sites in amyloids. The symposium will focus on the binding sites of metal ions in amyloids, understanding their influence on amyloid aggregation and consequently on the progression of the disease and on new insights into drug development to target metal ions to inhibit progression of amyloidogenic diseases. The tentative topics are:
