Lactate as a predictor of deterioration in Emergency Department patients with and without infection Conference Paper uri icon

abstract

  • Background / Purpose: Whether lactate prognosticates equally across diagnostic categories is not clearly defined. This study compares ability of lactate to identify patients at risk for deterioration in patients with and without infection. Main conclusion: Lactate levels can be used to identify patients who are at risk of deterioration regardless of infection status. The association between elevated lactate and adverse events is more pronounced in infected patients compared to non-infected patients.
