  • In the present research work, residual stress distribution in spot welded Ti6Al4V disks was measured by the X-ray diffraction method. Disks of three thicknesses, 6.5, 8.5 and 10.5 mm were welded using several currents. The results were also compared to those obtained by the Hole-Drilling (HD) method, and by numerical simulations. The distributions obtained by all three methods were alike, and similar to the distribution expected according to the literature, ie high tensile stress near the fusion zone, which drops sharply to compressive stress when getting farther away from it, and then rises moderately towards zero at the edge of the disk. Yet, the stress values obtained by the different methods were different from each other.
