STATIN THERAPY IS ASSOCIATED WITH A DECREASED RATE OF INFECTION-RELATED MORTALITY: 600 Academic Article uri icon

abstract

  • Methods: Primary care clinics were surveyed (n= 112) using a computerized system. 11,490 patients with atherosclerotic diseases (IHD, CVA, PVD) were identified and followed for up to 4 years. Cardio-vascular risk factors, comorbidities, lipids profile, medication history, hospitalizations and additional clinical data was recorded. Two groups of patients were identified: those receiving statins in the final month before follow up termination (S) and those who were not (NS). The primary outcome was infection-related mortality.
