The leading researchers in the field participated, and the occasion was an opportunity to summarize the current knowledge and evaluate the development of future interventions. From the papers presented at the conference, eight appear here on a range of issues, from diagnosis, characteristics of the perpetrators in terms of their background and trauma history, descriptions of treatments and suggestions for future research. The first article by Krueger and Kaplan relates to the forthcoming DSM-5 which has been under revision since 1999 and is scheduled for publication in 2013. Paraphilias have been assigned their own chapter in DSM-5 and a distinction has been made between Paraphilias and Paraphilic Disorders.
