abstract

  • STUDY DESIGN: Female Swiss Webster mice were fed a normal diet (N) or a 5% fish oil diet (FO, EPA: DHA ratio¼1: 2.5) for 3wks and then mated with N-fed males. N-and FO-fed dams continued their diets until gestation day 15 (GD15). On GD15 dams underwent a laparotomy and were injected with either saline or lipopolysaccharide (LPS [10ug], intrauterine) to induce PTL. Dams (w6/group) were euthanized 4hrs later. Amniotic fluid (AF) samples were assessed for prostaglandin E metabolite (PGEM) using an enzyme immunoassay method. PGEM assessment provides a reliable estimation of prostaglandin E2 (PGE2), which is rapidly metabolized and difficult to evaluate. Data were analyzed by ANOVA followed by Bonferroni post hoc testing (P< 0.05 ¼significant). RESULTS: Under basal conditions, AF samples from the N-diet and FO-diet groups had similar concentrations of PGEM. LPS …
