  • Abstract 1. Studied 28 patients treated with inositol (INS) or placebo and found a significant antidepressant effect for this 2nd messenger precursor. Ss were followed-up by interview and Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression (HRSD) 10–22 mo after the end of the study. Half of the Ss who had responded well to INS relapsed rapidly after INS discontinuation whereas none of those who responded to placebo relapsed rapidly after placebo cessation.
