Experimental and theoretical investigation of the transient temperature response of spines in free convection Academic Article uri icon

abstract

  • The temperature response of spines in free convection to step changes at their base is considered, with the aim of experimentally analyzing the transient behavior of spines and confirming previous numerical simulations that were adjusted to the case defined herein. The experiments were conducted on three sets of two identical fins, attached base to base, in order to determine the base conditions with a high degree of accuracy. The temperature response was measured by thermocouples and visualized by a liquid crystal solution. The experimental results confirm the theoretical model and emphasize the need for further analysis by accurate numerical methods.
