- This paper considers the temperature response of spines in free convection to step and periodical changes at their base. It is aimed at experimentally analyzing the transient behavior of spines and at confirming previous numerical simulations that have been adjusted to the case defined in this paper. The experiments have been conducted on three sets of two identical fins, attached base to base, in order to determine the base conditions with a high degree of accuracy. The temperature response has been measured by thermocouples and visualized by a Liquid-Crystal solution. The experimental results emphasize the need for further analysis by accurate numerical methods, such as were defined in this paper.
