Our aim is to introduce and facilitate this kind of asynchronous collaborative activity to increase the speed and accuracy of finding information on the Web. The software system must maintain the databases and perform the analyses needed to support user searches. As the user searches the Web, the system can then make page recommendations, either by proposing a list of relevant URLs or by visually marking recommended links with an icon. Recommendations must be based on extensive computation, which profiles quests, and summarizes them in short digital information pheromones (DIPs).
