  • The ability to design a pneumatic conveying system prior to full scale experiments and to optimize existing systems has long been a goal of designers. Such a design and optimization could be achieved by simulating the process under the required operating condition. In the present paper, three-dimensional numerical simulations of particles motions in a given size's pneumatic conveying system were conducted in order to obtain better understanding of the attrition process. A new and innovative procedure of empirical comminution functions (Kalman et al.) was integrated into DEM-CFD simulations. The comminution functions include: initial strength distribution, selection function, breakage function, equivalence function and fatigue function.
