  • Methods The Clallit Health Services Clinic in the small town of Lehavim serves a middle-to upper-middle-class population living in this community in southern Israel. The clinic serves about 2100 people over the age of 18. The study population included patients 18 years old and older as of 1998 (the year that files were computerized) and who, up to 2005, had undergone at least one blood test for vitamin B 12 level. Data collection included the reasons for testing, other laboratory test results, and comorbidity level according to the Charlson Comobidity Index. Statistical significance was determined at the P< 0.05 level throughout. Results
