  • Abstract Recently published data on the decay times of chromium in yttrium-aluminum garnet (YAG) are analyzed. The change of the radiative decay time constant as a function of temperature is shown to be due to the Boltzmann distribution of the excited electrons in the two excited chromium states. The implications for the chromium-thulium-holmium YAG laser are discussed.
