  • Objective Maternal obesity rates have increased dramatically over the last 3 decades, along with the associated chronic illnesses including cardiovascular diseases. We aimed to investigate a possible association between maternal obesity (BMI> 30) and the long-term risk for cardiovascular diseases in the offspring during a follow-up period of up to 18 years. Study Design A population based cohort analysis was performed comparing both total as well as different subtypes of cardiovascular morbidity leading to hospitalization among children (up to the age of 18 years) in obese and non-obese mothers. Data on pregnancy course and outcome, mode of delivery, and later offspring hospitalizations were collected from two different databases in a single regional tertiary medical center.
