Blaustein Institute for Desert Research, Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Sede-Boger Campus 84993, Israel ABSTRACT Continuum models, that generalize the classical Ste-fan setup for a pure substance by incorporating in-terfacial kinetics and pressure-transition tempera-ture effects, are considered. Several planar solidi-fication problems, classical solutions of which are either singular, or do not exist within the Stefan formulation, are addressed within the above conti-nuum models.
