  • 7. Conclusions We have presented a navigation strategy for micro-level network organization and an excitable media based wiring mechanism for the meso and macro levels organization. These mechanisms leads to the formation of neural networks with different structures, which can be genetically dependent. Our results raise two fundamental issues: 1. One needs to develop characterization methods (beyond number of connections per neurons) to distinguish the various possible networks. 2. The relations between the network organization and its computational properties and efficiency. To clarify what we mean by characterization method, we consider the following example in which the network is mapped into a directed graph.
