  • This issue is dedicated to a central question examining the overlap between anxiety and depressive disorders. The study of such overlap is fundamental not only for classification purpose but also for the understanding of underlying biological and psychological mechanisms as well as for the development of therapeutic approaches. We have taken a broader approach in this special issue that covers the historical context of the overlap, followed by its presentation across the life span. A pharmacological dissection is also carried out based on the use of medications that overlap in the treatment of some but not all cases of anxiety and depressive disorders.
