  • Numerical results from a previous study (Mazor et al., 1992) of the head-on reflection of a planar shock wave from a rubber wall experiencing a uniaxial strain loading mode are compared with recent experimental data. The comparison reveals a very good agreement with respect to the durations of the stress pulses and fairly good agreements with respect to the shapes and peak values of the stress pulses. The conclusions from the numerical investigation that rubberlike materials cannot be used to reduce head-on reflecting shock wave loads on structures are verified experimentally.
