  • A variable speed wind energy conversion system based on a squirrel cage autonomous induction generated is covered in this paper. Instead of a full rating controlled rectifier a shunt connected low rating inverter together with an uncontrolled diode rectifier are used. The inverter is operated to perform both maximum power tracking of the wind and constant V/Hz control of the induction machine. All the captured power is transferred to the grid, causing the shunt connected inverter to supply reactive power only. In addition, an accurate way to compute a maximum power curve is explained. Simulation results of main control loops are presented.
