B. ROZENFELD and SR ROTMAN The defect luminescence at approximately 300 nm of yttrium aluminum garnet (YAG) is considered. The temperature and temporal behavior of the luminescence is consistent with a single oxygen vacancy defect with luminescence occurring from several levels. 1. Introduction The rare earth ion doped yttrium aluminum garnet crystals Y,Al,O,, or YAG are widely used as lasing materials and for other quantum electronic device applications. Robbins et al.
