  • The cover picture illustrates redox-promoted self-assembly of an eight-residue cyclic D, L-α- peptide bearing four 1, 4, 5, 8-naphthalenetetracarboxylic diimide side chains into electronically delocalized peptide nanotubes hundreds of nanometers in length. The background picture was derived from an atomic force microscopy image of self-assembled cyclic peptide nanotubes adsorbed on mica. The supramolecular approach suggests a rational basis for the design and fabrication of composite 1D biomaterials with potential utility in optical and electronic devices.
