Amelogenin as marker for bone marrow engraftment: A short-term study Academic Article uri icon

abstract

  • The degree of chimerism on the molecular level was determined by single-step amelogenin-PCR over the first two weeks post bone marrow transplantation for the recipient of a sex-mismatched, HLA-fully matched donor marrow. The kinetic profile of engraftment, as shown here, paralleled the development of hematopoiesis allowing detection of donor cells in the peripheral blood four days before neutrophils were visible in smears. Determination of engraftment kinetics early post transplant allows appropriate treatment of the patient and might therefore be crucial to the success of the procedure.
