  • Presents the case of a 46-yr-old married women who was hospitalized for attempted suicide. The S exhibited mild anxiety and dysphoric mood, thought content of worthlessness, guilt, and recurrent thoughts of death accompanied by paranoid interpretation of her surroundings. Treatment with perphenazine and imipramine resulted in neuroleptic induced akathisia resistant to traditional drug therapy, which improved with ECT. Findings call for well designed studies on the efficacy of ECT, especially in patients with akathisia and depression.(PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2016 APA, all rights reserved)
