Relativistic MHD from two-fluid hydrodynamics (TFHD) Conference Paper uri icon


  • Abstract It is shown that the expected MHD equations may be derived from the relativistic two-fluid hydrodynamical equations, when current velocities are assumed negligible when compared to the mass flow velocity. It is found that MHD does not work in the inner part of the pulsar magnetosphere at radii smaller than that of the light cylinder. The plasma has a very anisotropic pressure and one can expect the firehose instability to develop from only the light cylinder. However, MHD works in the outer parts of the magnetosphere.
