  • Experimental and theoretical investigations of formation and dynamics of double layers (DL) in current and roltage driven plasmas become of a renewed interest (see, eg,[i]), because DL provide a mechanism for accelerating charge particles in space and laboratory plasmas. Various mechanisms of Initiation of DL have been proposed recently. However, an Important (and rather simple) question about the parameters of a stationary DL is as yet understood only poorly, in spite of a number of works concerning the matter. Here, we present a brief description of the kinetic theory of a stationary collisionless DL with a strictly monotonic potential drop of any magnitude and with'an arbitrary value of current.
