  • Although for the first time I probably met Gad Hetsroni in late 1990 or early 1991, it happened that I never attended his class during my graduate studies, and my real acquaintance with him occurred in the summer of 1995, when he hired me as the research engineer for the Energy Research Center that he headed at that time. He was already really famous then and, in fact, approaching the age when many people are retiring... Fast forward to November 25, 2014: many of us gathered that day at the Technion for the celebration of Gad's 80th birthday, organized by Shimon Haber. Among the speakers, there was Technion's President, Professor Peretz Lavie. His speech combined high praise of Gad's work with some—apparently unavoidable in our times—metrics, like the number of papers Gad had published or citations of his works.
