CROSSLINK DENSITY OF POLYMERS-CAN IT BE DETERMINED BY SOLVENT SWELLING? Academic Article uri icon

abstract

  • ABSTRACT The swelling of polymer networks is analyzed with emphasis on the main assumptions inherent to the classical development. Flory's new theory of rubber elasticity is included. Comparison of experimental data obtained by swelling the same network by two different solvents indicate large discrepancy between theory and experiment. The entire method is shown to be unreliable for exact determination of crosslink density.
